Fit4Mom is a great way for moms to connect with other moms in the community. Moms that come from different backgrounds, life stages and personalities. I feel so blessed to have come into this group! They are ready to work and join in on a class, while giving each other encouragement. There are days when I don't feel I can keep going in a workout, but I will hear "You got this Bonnie! or "Come on Mommas!" and that just gives me what I need to keep going! Thank you to Amy and all the Fit4Mom instructors. You all have a good thing going.
Q&A
Where are you originally from? I'm from right here, Burleson, Texas! I moved around a little bit after high school, but I came back to raise a family.
Tell us about your workout buddy/buddies!
Oh these ladies and their littles put a smile on my face each time I attend a class. They don't mind at all that my older kiddo doesn't attend with me, and they make me so proud that they are taking steps to be healthy for themselves and set an example for their babies.
How did you meet your husband?
I saw Jeff from across the room as soon as I walked into my favorite honky tonk, I knew immediately that I was going to be in his life from the moment I saw his bald head shining in the neon lights. Luckily for me, he was there with a friend of mine, that just happened to be his cousin. He introduced us, and we talked all night.
What’s your favorite family activity?
The Mays family enjoys having a family game or movie night in, but honestly, we get a little antsy in the house too long (thanks for the challenge 2020). So, if we aren't doing that, we like to dine out at one of our favorite restaurants, we love to travel - a good road trip is healing to the soul.
Tell us a little about your career—pre or post baby.
When I was in high school I had three "dream jobs": Make-up Artist, College Professor, and Art Director of a magazine. I did all three by the time I was 25. Obviously I'm not a teacher, but I was able to guest lecture at a couple colleges, and also sat on advisory boards for their art departments. I worked my way up as a graphic designer and eventually became the Art Director at the FW Weekly & of Inside FW Magazine. Later, I was called to lead the communication ministry at our church, once I did that, I just thrived. I am the director of a crazy growing ministry, and lead a team of very talented individuals.
How did you find out about FIT4MOM?
My amazing childhood friend, Charla encouraged me to try it. I was all-in from the beginning. Because it was early days of Covid, we weren't meeting in-person, and I signed up for Body Well having never taken a class at all!
What is your favorite part about FIT4MOM?
Fit4Mom brings a sense of community to moms of all stages and ages.
What has inspired you the most since being a part of FIT4MOM?
Seeing the other kiddos "play workout" or mimic the moves that we do in classes makes me super proud to be part of Fit4Mom!
Do you have any big plans this month?
December is probably my busiest month of the year, being on staff at a church and all.... we even take an entire week off after Christmas Eve. So, I am looking forward to doing all the Christmas traditions we have made over the years.
What is your proudest moment as a mom?
We have one son, Gunner. He's 12. I don't have just one proud moment, but a lot. He has the biggest heart I have ever seen. I am always hearing from other parents and adults about something good that he has done. He's an overcomer, he has had many health challenges since birth, he's our million dollar baby.
Have you ever thought, gosh I can’t do this, and what brings you to see the good?
Mommin' ain't easy!! There's hard issues at all stages. If we've had a bad day, I will often go lay in bed with Gunner. When I look down at him in his bed, I still see that little baby I used to have to rock to sleep every night. It's so cliche, but it truly does go by fast - I keep that in mind a lot.
How has becoming a mother changed you?
I think I have become more caring and nurturing. Before Gunner, I was more than happy to be independent and on my own.
What advice would you give a new mom?
Sleep when you can, and don't be afraid to reach out to family or friends for help! Obviously hard during Covid, but I didn't ask for help and I wished I had.
