April 2023 Mom of the Month

Fit4Mom has been so good for me and my kids. We get out of the house and get fresh air together. I get a workout and adult conversation. My boys get play time and crafts. The instructors are open and real and truly want each of us to connect and grow as moms and women.

Tell us who you are mama to!

I have two super energetic, sweet boys, Brooks (3.5) and Briggs (1.5).

How did you meet your husband?

I was working for a company that made the merchandise for the Fort Worth Stock Show, and Adam had just started his job with Holt CAT. We each were working booths at the Stock Show and happened to be across the aisle from each other. I called over to him and we started talking. He would get off at 4pm but hang out in his truck so he could pick me up when I got off at 8pm. It was very sweet.

What’s your favorite family activity?

We love to take our golf cart for a ride around the neighborhood.

Tell us a little about your career—pre or post baby.

Before having kids, I worked for ECI helping out kiddos with developmental delays and their parents. I was also working on my teaching certificate and had intentions of teaching special education when my boys go to school. I’m not sure if that’s still the path I will take when the time comes, or if I will turn another direction.

How did you find out about FIT4MOM?

I had made a decision to move more, so I started by going for a walk at Bailey Lake. (Y’all know where this is going, right?) I saw a group of moms working out together with their strollers and I was trying to figure out who they were and how to join them. As I was walking to my car, Amy stopped me and told me what Fit4Mom was all about.

What is your favorite part about FIT4MOM?

I love getting to know other moms in similar stages as me. And that I don’t have to think about my workout schedule- it is just my routine now.

What has inspired you the most since being a part of FIT4MOM?

The moms from the last run club. I was on the fence about bumping my workout to the next level, and the moms who participated in run club were so down to earth about it. They were open and honest about the training and the race. Each one I talked to made me feel like I could do it too.

Have you ever thought, gosh I can’t do this, and what brings you to see the good?

At least once a week. When mom life gets really hard, I vent to my friends, because their kids are probably tornadoes that day, too. Then I put down my phone and watch my boys. I remind myself that they are new to this life and their brains are still developing. If that doesn’t work, I tough it out until my husband gets home, and I can walk away for a bit.

What advice would you give a new mom?

Find a mom group to get you out of the house. Let other moms help you, care for you, and lift you up. We’re all just winging it, and it’s a lot more fun to be on this roller coaster with other moms who get it. Oh, and your house will not be tidy. It’s fine. People don’t actually care. And if they do, they can help you pick things up.
