What Does a Child Adjustment Look Like?

Let’s talk about what it looks like to have you or your child adjusted. Depending on the age this can look slightly different for each person. Here is a breakdown of how we adjust each age group and an example of what it may look like:

Newborn-Age 1:

I know I know everyone looks at you like you are crazy if you mention getting your baby adjusted by a chiropractor. There are numerous reasons to have you baby adjusted but we will break those down into separate posts in the near future.

The pressure used to move the bones is about the same amount of pressure used to touch your eye. We will gently move their soft bones to a less tense position while also unwinding the fascia surrounding the area using craniosacral therapy. This looks more like a baby massage and most babies tend to love it!

Age 1 – About 10 years old:

These adjustments may look slightly different due to the use of what is called an Activator. This instrument moves the bone but does so in a quick and gentle manner. The instrument uses speed to quickly move the bone so not as much force is needed (remember F=ma, Force = mass times acceleration, from physics?? If we want to be less forceful, we must increase the speed to get the same effect and that’s exactly what this instrument was built for).

About age 10+:

This adjustment can be done in many ways. We can manually adjust with our hands, use the table assisted drops, or use the Activator to all be effective in delivering the chiropractic adjustment.

Chiropractic adjustments and Craniosacral Therapy can be safely and effectively done at any age and in multiple ways. We can make it as gentle or as physical as you would like!
