Ear Infections

Recurring Ear Infections...back to the pediatrician again??

By now most of us moms have experienced an ear infection in our littles. These are normal to happen here and there until the age of one due to the Eustachian tubes of our inner ear being more horizontal at birth and gradually coming down more diagonal/vertical in that first year to two years of life. What is abnormal is the cycle of ear infection (maybe double), antibiotics for 10 days, have a week off, another ear infection (probably double now), stronger antibiotics, another ear infection 14-20 days later, for what seems like 6-10 rounds and then its tubes.

This is ABNORMAL.

I pray you each have a pediatrician that recognizes and acknowledges that this is abnormal and the cycle must be broken (if you don’t we know some great ones to try!). There are natural ways to break this cycle. There are natural ways to treat ear infections. And there are of course times that medication is needed as the last resort.

Antibiotics kill all good bacteria as well as bad. This means your child’s natural gut flora is being destroyed with each round of antibiotics. This gut flora is essential in order to stay healthy. Luckily there are ways to build this back up but the repeated use of antibiotics has to stop in order to build it back up.

Here are the first few steps you can take to start your child on the natural path to ear wellness:

• Chiropractic adjustments with Craniosacral therapy- We can help with both!

• Vibration and Lymphatic Massage- performed by a chiropractor or massage therapist and taught to parents to do at home

• Breastmilk in ear

• Mullein Garlic Oil- in inner ear (as long as tubes are NOT present already)

• Probiotics- must contain Lactobacillus (we have many options to recommend)

• Tea Tree Oil- around outer ear

• Lavender Oil- around outer ear and down neck

• Say NO to dairy- changing formula if needed. Mother removing dairy and eggs while breastfeeding

• Do not feed child laying on their back

These are just a few of the places we start. I encourage you to find other options if you are stuck in this cycle. Your child’s immune system will become stronger, their gut will be healthier, and they will thrive!
